Opening for Miles To Dayton!

We are pleased to welcome Miles to Dayton back to the Patchogue Theatre Main Stage for their third headline performance in celebration of their fourth album, "Forces Unknown." Since their first Live in the Lobby performance ten years ago, they've become a beloved part of the PTPA "family" of local musicians over countless performances by the full band and individual members.

At the heart of their unique marriage of styles lies a real-life marriage: vocalist Krista Preddice shares the microphone with husband Jonathan Preddice, who proposed to Krista on our stage at their last show in 2009. In addition to being the principal songwriter for the group, Jon also shines on guitar, cello, accordion, and trumpet. Bassist Dave March (Krista’s brother) and dynamic violinists Leanne Strom and Alisa Rabbitt (Jon’s sisters) add depth to the vocal harmonies, with Dave’s low, soulful bass and the double violin soaring classical virtuosity providing the sonic bookends for the M2D sound. Drummer Brian Kroll propels the music forward with an exciting and funky edge.
“A mix of folk, country and classical music, delivering four-part harmonies and improvisational violin and cello parts, Miles to Dayton is stacked with solid musicianship and is definitely worth checking out.”

Joni Mitchell and Gordon Lightfoot had a love child, raised with the help of godmothers Judy Collins and Maria Muldaur. Surely this is how singer/songwriter Kirsten Maxwell got her start. A listen to her voice and turn-of-phrase/lyrics, and these luminaries will be brought to mind. Kirsten released her debut album, "Crimson," this year. The first standout element of this recording is the purity of Kirsten’s voice. Sweet, with a presence and intimacy. A compilation of eleven original songs on love and longing, "Crimson" is the kind of album you embrace when it's time to let go.

Making Local Waves!

"Young Singer-Songwriter is Drawing National Attention, Accolades..." The Huntingtonian

"The 23-year-old Huntington High School graduate has received many accolades in the recent months..."  Huntington Patch

Kirsten Maxwell of Huntington has been named a winner of the 2016 South Florida Folk Festival Singer-Songwriter Competition after showcasing her talents, along with 12 other finalists, during the annual festival in Fort Lauderdale on Jan. 16.  As one of three winners, Kirsten received a cash prize and has been invited to perform on the festival’s main stage next January.

This is just the latest in a series of accolades that the versatile 23 year-old vocalist, guitarist and songwriter –- who has quickly become a recognized fixture on the Long Island singer-songwriter scene -- has received in recent months.  Last year, she was the first-place winner in a contest sponsored by the Rhode Island Songwriters Association (RISA) and had the pleasure of opening a concert there for Michael Johnson (“Bluer Than Blue”). She also earned a coveted slot in the Suzi Wollenberg Folk DJ showcase at the 2015 Northeast Regional Folk Alliance (NERFA) Conference that took place in Kerhonkson, NY last November.  Last fall, Kirsten also drew a standing room only crowd to the Cinema Arts Centre’s Sky Room, where she and Annika Bennett, another young singer-songwriter, showcased their talents as part of the Folk Music Society of Huntington’s monthly Hard Luck Café series. Kirsten will present a free concert at the Huntington Public Library on Friday evening, Feb. 5, at 7 p.m. She also shares a bill with Cathy Kreger, another Huntington-based singer-songwriter, at the Our Times Coffeehouse at the Ethical Humanist Society of Long Island in Garden City on Friday night, Feb. 19.

Kirsten’s stunningly pure voice has drawn comparisons to the likes of Joan Baez, Judy Collins and Joni Mitchell and is evocative of the 1960s folk scene. “I never thought I’d ever hear a voice as angelic and mesmerizing as I did when I first started listening to Joan Baez some 50 years ago, but then I heard the voice, the songs and melodies of Kirsten Maxwell,” says Jon Stein, host of Hootenanny Café on WTBQ-FM in Orange County, NY. Stein will interview and spotlight Kirsten on his show on Sunday, Feb. 28 that airs at 9 p.m. and will also stream online at and be archived at

Kirsten, a Huntington High School graduate, who holds a BA in Creative Writing from SUNY Geneseo, has been exercising her passion and writing skills since composing her first song at age 12. Last year, she independently released her debut album and is currently promoting it to folk and other radio programmers across the country and beyond. Entitled Crimson, the album is available as a CD and a download at her website ( and at Crimson is Kirsten’s unique look at lost or unrequited love. Each of its 11 songs is a story unto itself that reveals the emotional driftwood of relationships run aground. “It was love at first listen,” says Joltin Joe Pszonek, host of Radio Nowhere on WMSC-FM in Montclair, NJ, who first heard Kirsten perform live during a Borderline Folk Music Club Picnic in Rockland County, NY last summer.

Sharing his sentiments, Artie Martello, who produces and hosts a Mostly Folk podcast from upstate Halcottsville, NY, says: “Her exceptional vocal range, lilting melodies and heartfelt performance is the perfect match for her songs. Crimson will take you on a journey through familiar moments in life and have you nodding your head in agreement. The best part is that this is only the beginning.” Martello’s interview with Kirsten will air on Saturday, Feb. 27 at 7 a.m. and can be heard online at

John Platt, host of Sunday Supper on WFUV 90.7 FM in the Bronx, also is impressed with Kirsten’s abilities and will feature her in his monthly “On Your Radar” showcase at Rockwood Music Hall on Manhattan’s Lower East Side on Tuesday night, March 10.

Other upcoming area appearances of note include The Song Box house concert series in Seaford on Saturday, April 30 (during which she shares the bill with Annie Mark, another Huntington area singer-songwriter. The two artists work during the day at TK’s Galley, a restaurant in Halesite] and The Eclectic Café in Bay Shore on Saturday, May 14 (during which she’ll swap songs with nationally touring singer-songwriters Rachael Kilgour and Matt Nakoa).

“It is exciting to return to your home town after college and connect with it in a new way,” says Kirsten. “My days at Huntington High School were some of the best, but I did not identify with the community until I found the folk music scene on Long Island. The musical community here is powerful, and fellow musicians and music lovers are the reason I have made it this far doing what I love.”

Kirsten Maxwell
Produced by Kirsten Maxwell and Fred Guarino

Joni Mitchell and Gordon Lightfoot had a love child, raised with the help of godmothers Judy Collins and Maria Muldaur. Surely this is how singer/songwriter Kirsten Maxwell got her start. A listen to her voice and turn-of-phrase/lyrics, and these luminaries will be brought to mind. All songs on Crimson are original compositions. The first standout element of this recording is the purity of Kirsten’s voice. Sweet, with a presence and intimacy rarely found in today’s crop of American Idol-type singers trying to best each other within the same narrow singing criteria. Kirsten, on the other hand, seems confident and sure of her own lyrical style which, while reminiscent of some of the greats, is clearly and distinctively her own. Expressive, and beautifully ornamented vocal phrases never sacrifice a melodic line for vocal gymnastics or showmanship for the sake of showmanship. And the melodies are indeed beautiful. Especially noteworthy are “All I Am,” which exquisitely showcases her musicality, “Goodbye”, and the relationship epic/ anthem “We Always Miss.” The very last, titular song “Crimson” holds a tenderness and poetic baring of the soul; a poignancy and universal sadness over the relationship which seems meant to be yet never seems able to be. On it Kirsten relinquishes her excellent backup musicians, and even her sweet soprano for an earthier alto, which, with her own simple guitar accompaniment, accentuates the beautiful, intense and intimate relationship with her audience. Her backup musicians include Mark Newman (Guitar, Dobro, Lap Steel and Mandolin), Shawn Murray (Drums) Don Celenza (Electric Bass), Bill Heller (Piano), Mike Hall (Upright Bass), Mauro Refosco (Percussion) and Sierra Knotts (Violin). A highly recommended, beautiful debut album from an artist to watch!

Long Awaited Debut Album - Crimson

I am excited to announce that my first album, entitled Crimson, is coming out at the end of this month. It has been a long journey - from making chord charts for the other musicians in August, to recording through the winter, (taking three weeks to go to India, and two months of rehearsal to be in a community theater production of Kiss Me, Kate) to finally approving the proofs for the artwork and awaiting the arrival of the hard has been a wild ride!

I am looking forward to sharing this piece of me with you. The first party celebrating the release of the album is April 25th 7:30pm at the Mount Sinai Congregational Church in Mount Sinai NY, hosted by Songwriters Showcase and Bumradio. I hope, if you are in the area, you will join me in celebration and if not, the CD will be available online very soon!

Thank you again to everyone who has supported this project and encouraged me to follow this passion. You make it all worth while!

Hello! I hope everyone is healthy and happy following the holiday season. I have just returned from India! After soaking in the savory sun through the palm fronds, the cold was exceptionally bitter when we arrived at the airport last night. The whole adventure screamed 'Eat, Pray, Love,' especially when our plane made a quick stop in Milan on the way home! It was an immensely impactful trip. I am filled with gratitude for the growth; spiritual, emotional, and possibly physical (they loved to feed us and food was out of the world) that I have known.

Now I am back home and looking forward to getting this show (literally and figuratively) on the road! My Album is soon to be completed and I am hoping to release it late February/early March. I've started booking some gigs, so I will get those up on the site soon. Please feel free to reach out and keep in touch! Don't forget to sign the mailing list (simply scroll down) and stay tuned for updates.
